The Atsuta shrine is one of the most important shrines in Japan. Lined with attractive cypress trees, it dates back to the third century and is supposed to house the sacred imperial sword, one of the three regalia of the imperial family, the others being a sacred mirror at Ise and sacred jewels in the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.
